I will introduce the graphic novel trilogy by Kim Dong Hwa. This trilogy is based on the experience of women as well as respect for women in the past. A story is able to express the social conditions of society at that time. Social criticism, feminism, and chauvinism are alluded to by the author.

In addition to the writing style that flows beautifully and poetically, Kim Dong Hwa also draws it by himself. He is known as the master of the light and sweet Sujung Manhwa. The manhwa artwork is absolutely beautiful. I’m sure you will really like the results of these artwork.

Kim Dong Hwa has produced brilliant graphic novels, one of which is a colors trilogy divided into The Color of Earth, The Color of Water, and The Color of Heaven:

This story is about a mother and her daughter. A widow Namwon and a little girl who is always being chased by curiosity. The little girl name is Ehwa, her beautiful face began to attract the boys around her. She is more maturing in mind and body. Curiosity about her own feelings and body, about love, about boys, and about adult life.

Ehwa and her mother have a strong bond, they support each other in the face of a not-so-friendly environment. Chauvinism is very evident among the people, from gossip about young widow and comparing them to beetles, to the association of boys telling that anyone who does not have male genitals is a sign of disability.
Although the character who likes to judge the status of others is enough to irritate the reader, Kim Dong Hwa also brings out positive masculine characters to balance this story, such as the character of the draftsman and the young monk Chung-Myung.

Ehwa is getting prettier and growing up. She had also began to recognize her own body, had understood what it was like to be in love, and for the first time in her life kept a secret from her mother. Her mother began to worry and imagine her life if Ehwa married someday. Meanwhile, her mother’s relationship with the draftsman grew closer.

The nature of the Korean countryside is described as very beautiful and amazing as the background of their love story and Ehwa’s journey as an adult. The story is increasingly unique and full of strong cultural references.

Ehwa has become a confident young woman, she is the same situation as her mother, well she is also waiting for her lover. Her mother expects the draftsman to return, Ehwa expects her lover to return and ready to marry Ehwa. Then Ehwa is getting married, the moment she craved.

I think this graphic novel could also be a sex education book, but I hope adults are wiser because it’s not suitable for children to read. So you should be able to sort the books for yourself, your sister, or your children.

Happy Reading 🌻(๑˃̵ ᴗ ˂̵)و🌻
